Zach is currently the treasurer of UR POLIS. He has previously served on Hill Business Students Society as External Coordinator and served 2 years on Hill JDC West Debate team, one year having the role of captain.
Zach is engaged in many different activities outside of academia such as working in the Ministry of Health as a Research Officer. Zach also loves to play sports such as Hockey and Soccer and football and spends much of his weekend hours watching his teams play. Zach also loves to spend his free time swimming and believes it is the best workout for your body and mind. Zach also enjoys spending time listening to music and says that music is one of the most important aspects of life.
Zach chose Political Science as his major for a few main reasons. When deciding his major he always had an interest in politics and law as he grew up with lawyers in his family which made him lean towards Political Science from the beginning. Zach is also passionate about Politics and the preservation of social and human rights, as well as protection of democracy, and therefore felt a duty to study in the Political Science field to hopefully help make positive changes in a world that continues to struggle with threats like populism and democratic backsliding as his favourite prof would say.
Zach’s has a few favourite classes but recommends starting with PSCI 220 with Arjun Trembaly on comparative politics. This class was so crucial for Zach in learning about current concepts that threaten much of the democracies in the world that still stand. Professor Tremblay teaches concepts like populism, democratic backsliding, and more and he does it in such an engaging way and really paves the way for your success as a Political Science student in the future of your studies at the 300 and 400 level.
Zach is most excited for events such as the Pints and Politics nights and Trivia nights and looks forward to meeting and having conversations with the students that we, at UR POLIS, are aiming to create a great atmosphere and experience for.
